Gordon Laise was a kind mayor and he kept the town safe under impossible circumstances. Many wondered how he did such a feat, but he was likeable enough that nobody questioned his authority. He was a regular at the Yellow Rose Saloon and attended everyone’s weddings and funerals. That was how he was with the town and all the people—a friend to all. Suddenly, he disappeared. Not long after, the outlaws started raiding the town openly.
The outlaws are led by Pilar Acosta and she pillaged the town for ammunition and supplies from time to time—which didn't happen until Gordon left, hinting that he might have been making deals with the outlaws to keep the town safe. The Sheriff, Lawrence Strayer, is at a loss because the town had no order and was going insane. In desperation, he sent a letter to Gordon's daughter, Annabel.
And then, a new kid came into town, Matthew Laise, and he claims to have inherited the town and the position of mayor in Gordon’s will. Around the same time, Annabel came back from the East Coast with Lawrence's letter, leaving her husband and ready to save the town. Matthew had come first and with a more legitimate note—that of Gordon's will—and so claimed the role of mayor. And Annabel demanded the role, as she didn't come all the way, leave her husband, and find her dad's disappearance true only to see her grand and triumphant continuation of her dad's legacy destroyed by this... joke of a man.
But, despite the fact that Matthew seems a poor candidate, he refused to give up the mayorship for personal reasons. This has left Free Pony in even more chaos as there is now a battle for mayor while the law fights the outlaws. In this tangled nest of conflict, everyone wonders how it will turn out in the end.
