Name: Melete
Gender: Female
Species: Cougar
Age: Three years
Alliance: The Black Lark
Rank: Normal, Average
Appearance: Despite her young age, Melete has always been small in stature. Hardly large enough to be considered a threat; her physique has always offered the young cat a challenge. Melete has a very delicate look to her. A smaller head, a short neck and legs, a lithe body. There isn’t a doubt that Melete still has held onto her kitten-like characteristics.
The young cougar’s fur is an ashy brown, thick and wiry to the touch. A smooth face, small nose, and large paws blend her in easily with every other member of her clan.
Apart from her nimble build, the only thing that might catch another off guard is Melete’s eyes. A foggy green-gray in color, they are truly her only unique physical attribute. While she would never really pose a challenge in battle, being the size that she is has blessed Melete with a surprising amount of agility. This is something she takes pride in. But don’t expect her to show her talents off unless truly needed. Personality: Passive. Weak. Pathetic, even. While she would always do her level best to avoid the truth, Melete knows she has always been one that has been looked down upon. Because of her small size and peaceful nature, the young cat has always fallen into the background, even in her younger years. Melete has always played the supporting role, taken second place in comparison to others. And while she can bow her head and accept this, inwardly she has always despised herself for it.
Without a doubt, there has never been an aggressive streak in Melete. She has always been an advocate for peace, and would rather be dubbed as a coward from fleeing from a battle than actually taking part in blood-shed. Not only is there fear, but there is lack of confidence in herself. The only time Melete could find the strength to step into a challenge would be through knowing a loved one was in danger.
From an early age Melete has learned how to play support. She takes orders, never gives them. She listens, but rarely will speak up. She wants to be seen as useful, but a lack of self-respect often turns a willingness to help into a sense of weakness.
Despite her reputation as an underdog though, there lies a heart of gold in this young cat. Loyal, sensible, and always willing to push for a brighter tomorrow, she would stop at nothing to make sure her clan and lands are safe.
History: The runt. That has always been what Melete was tagged as. Born from a litter of three, her name simply means “patient one,” something that represents the young cat very well.
Being the last born, she has always faced the challenge of being smaller and taking up last place from the very start has always given Melete a negative view of herself. But never a negative view of life. Melete lived her first two years of life under the protection of her mother and two sisters. She was born western mountains, and has existed there ever since.
And really, that is all Melete has done in her life – existed. While she was there, right along everyone else, Melete has always played the supporting role. She avoided the rough-housing and wrestling matches as a kitten, much preferring the quiet edge of the den and her own thoughts.
As she grew, Melete’s habits did not change much. Though when her mother was killed after a accidental fall from the cliffs, the young one was forced to gain independence and teach herself the ways of the world. There had always been a fear of the outside world in the back of her mind, something that forced Melete to stay close to the only home she ever knew. Losing her only sense of protection in the world only drove Melete further into her own shell.
Still at an early point in her life, Melete continues to exist. She has yet to strike out far into the world. She knows this is something that cannot last forever, nor does the wish it to. But there is something holding her back, and sadly, Melete doesn’t truly even know what that is. RP Example: Silence. Somewhere in the foggy morning, a mountain grouse shuttered and rose into the pale sky. Gray eyes watched its dark shadow through the mist, rising into the air and taking flight. That could have been breakfast, though from her place in the ferns, Melete had no intention of moving. She had been there through the evening and into the late hours of the night, waiting. For what? It had been a question she had asked herself plenty of times in the quiet of the night. The young cat flicked her ears back, taking in more of the silent morning.
An hour ago the light had touched the eastern sky, finally spilling now over the very tip of the mountains. The sky was blanketed with a heavy layer of clouds, a sure sign of rain later. The pale light turned Melete’s pelt to ash as she lay her head down again on resting paws. Somewhere in the distance, a familiar scent caught her nose. Another being. Of her clan? It must have been so.
Never in her three years of life had Melete seen another creature from the outside areas. They were there, she knew that fact well. But it was blind faith in the words and tales of others. Though believing word of mouth had never been trouble for her… Many would have said it was her weakness. Melete closed her eyes against that thought.
Perhaps she was out here to clear her head. It wasn’t like the female to be out so far, out alone for so long like this. Though she doubted her presence would have been missed over the course of a night. If she had been gone for a week, would the clan worry? If she disappeared completely, would anyone bother to come searching? Melete stopped herself then. Where were these negative thoughts coming from? This simply was not like her.
She considered then rising and padding through the woods, back home. The ground was cold beneath her belly. Melete’s tail gave a slight enemiech as she raised her head again. Home. At this time of the morning, slumber would still hang heavy over the den. A soft croak rose from Melete’s throat. She would go back soon enough.
